Player guide

Learn the ropes. Then make yourself at home.

ZGC runs a handful of small quality-of-life commands on top of survival Minecraft — homes you can teleport to, a shop, player payments, an auction house, and storage that follows you around. Here is what each one does and when you would reach for it, whether it is your first day or your five hundredth.

Quick reference

Every ZGC command, on one screen.

Type these into the in-game chat box exactly as they are written. Each one is explained in full further down the page — new players, start with homes.

Homes

Save the places you keep coming back to.

A home is a spot you save so you can teleport straight back to it later — your base, your farm, the ravine you are halfway through mining out. Setting one takes a second and saves you a very long walk.

/sethome/home/delhome

  1. Stand exactly where you want to land

A home remembers the spot you are standing on, so choose somewhere safe and open — your front door, the middle of your base, or beside your storage room. Avoid saving a home inside a cave you are still lighting up.

  2. Type /sethome in chat

Open the chat box, type /sethome, and send it. The server confirms in chat once the spot is saved. That is the whole thing — there is nothing to build or place.

  3. Travel back any time with /home

Wherever you have wandered off to, type /home and you will be teleported back to your saved spot. Use it at the end of a mining trip, when a storm rolls in, or when you simply want to go put your things away.

  4. Remove an old home with /delhome

When you no longer need a saved location, type /delhome in chat. If the server asks which home you want to remove, enter that saved home's name. Once the server confirms it was deleted, that home slot is free to use again.

Getting un-lost

One command always takes you back to the start.

Spawn is the shared starting area of the world — the place everyone arrives when they first join. Even if you are a thousand blocks out with no map and no idea which way is home, you are never really stranded.

/spawn

  1. Type /spawn in chat

You will be teleported straight back to the world spawn, from anywhere in the world.

  2. Get your bearings

Spawn is a good place to reset from: from there you can head back out with a fresh plan, or use /home to drop straight back at your own base.

The server shop

Browse the shop — and pick up a free golden shovel.

The shop is a menu that opens right in your screen, so you can look through what the server has on offer without travelling anywhere. It is also where ZGC hands out the tool you need to protect your builds.

/shop

  1. Type /shop in chat

A shop menu opens in front of you. Look through the categories, click what you are interested in, and close the menu when you are done — nothing is bought by accident just from browsing.

  2. Grab a golden shovel — they are free

Golden shovels are available in the shop at no cost, so take one whenever you need it. It is not a digging tool you need to save; it is the tool ZGC uses for marking out land claims.

  3. Keep one on you before you build

If you are about to start a base, a farm, or anything you would be sad to lose, pick up a shovel first so you can claim the ground before you put work into it.

Land claims

Protect your build with a golden shovel.

A land claim marks a piece of ground as yours, so your build stays the way you left it. The golden shovel from the shop is the tool you use to mark that area out.

/shop

  1. Get a golden shovel from /shop

Open the shop, take a free golden shovel, and move it into your hotbar so you can hold it.

  2. Hold the shovel and mark one corner

With the golden shovel in your hand, click the ground at one corner of the area you want to protect. Chat will let you know the corner has been registered.

  3. Mark the opposite corner

Walk to the opposite corner of your area and click the ground there too. That pair of corners becomes the rectangle of land you have claimed, and chat confirms the claim.

  4. Give yourself room

Claim a little more than you currently need. It is much easier to build into space you already protected than to start again around the edges of a claim that is too tight.

The auction house

Trade with other players, even when they are offline.

The auction house is ZGC's player-to-player marketplace. Other players list things they do not need, you list things you have spare, and everyone spends less time standing around waiting to swap items in person.

/ah

  1. Type /ah in chat

The auction house opens as a menu on your screen, showing what other ZGC players currently have up for sale.

  2. Browse before you buy

Have a look through the listings and compare what is on offer. Some things you were about to spend an evening farming may already be sitting there.

  3. List your own spares

Extra saplings, stacks of cobblestone, duplicate gear — the auction house is a good home for anything filling up your chests that another player would happily use.

Money & balances

Check your balance, then share the wealth.

ZGC has a simple in-game economy for the shop and player trading. You can check how much money a player has, pay another player directly, and earn money just by spending time online.

/bal playername/pay playername amount

  1. Check a balance with /bal playername

Replace playername with the Minecraft name you want to look up. For example, /bal Steve shows Steve's current balance. Use your own player name when you want to check how much money you have.

  2. Pay someone with /pay playername amount

Replace playername with the recipient's Minecraft name and amount with how much you want to send. For example, /pay Steve 25 sends Steve $25. Double-check the name and amount before sending the command.

  3. Stay online to earn $10 every 30 minutes

The server automatically gives you $10 for every 30 minutes you are online. You do not need to type a command or claim it — just keep playing and the reward is added while you are on the server.

Storage on the go

Your ender chest, anywhere you happen to be.

An ender chest is private storage that only you can see into — and unlike a normal chest, its contents follow you around the world. On ZGC you can open yours without carrying or placing one.

/enderchest

  1. Type /enderchest in chat

Your ender chest opens right where you are standing. Put things in, take things out, and close it again when you are done.

  2. Use it as a safety net while exploring

Deep in a cave with a full inventory and a pocket of diamonds? Stash the valuable things in your ender chest instead of carrying them all the way home.

  3. Pick it all back up at base

Whatever you put in stays there. Open it again next time you are at your base and unload it into your normal storage.

Handy habits

A few things that make life easier.

Small habits that save new players a lot of walking, digging, and re-doing.

Commands always start with a slash

Open chat — press T on Java Edition, or tap the chat bubble at the top of the screen on Bedrock — then type the command exactly as written, including the / at the front, and send it.

Read what chat says back

The server replies in chat after most commands. That message is the quickest way to tell whether something worked, so it is worth a glance before you carry on.

Set a home on day one

The very first thing worth doing after you pick a spot to settle is /sethome. Everything else is easier once you have a way back.

Ask — genuinely, it is fine

Nobody on ZGC minds a question. If a command is not doing what you expected, ask in Discord and someone will sort you out.
